Vittal

41 Kms and 17 Kms east of Mangalore and BC Road. respectively, was the seat of Heggades of Vittal, Whose descedants are living at the place.

Vittal is famous for four important temples, namely Panchalingeshwara, Subrahmanya & Madanteshwara & Vithoba.

The ruins of the mud walls of fort, within which was a palace which was burnt by Tippu Sultan, can still be seen as also Main doorway of black granite leading into the palace. To the north of the palace stands the graveyard where one of the ministers named Shambhulinga Bhatt was buried alive for treason.

The place has an Arecanut Research Station established by Central Government, two higher secondary schools and a primary health center.
